F4D "Skyray"

Initially designated the F4D, later redesignated the F-6. Fleet pilots called the F4D the "Ford."

Jim Verdin established a speed record above the Salton Sea on 03 October 1953 in XF4D-1 Skyray BuNo 124587 with a top speed of 752.95 mph according to one of my China Lake contacts. The plane is currently on display in front of the China Lake Museum. I have several photos I took of it in 2001 & 2004.
