Description: Blowup of three of three.
I was the Tugmaster of YTB-775 in Subic Bay when this aircraft, #158476, crashed into Subic Bay on 24 May 1984. I was briefed prior to our sortie; one person was suspected to remain in the crashed A-4 which had been on a training mission. The pilot had ejected (survived) & had been recovered. The 775 & crew were used to recover the remains of the remaining crew member & the aircraft itself. No photos were taken of the crewmember, who was recovered by Navy Seals & other divers. My tug used a Crane (YD) & a large barge (YCV) to recover the aircraft.

The pilot killed was LTJG Dickson, or Dickenson, or maybe Dickerson. He had just arrived and was being checked out in the TA-4J with a senior pilot (whose name I do not know) in the rear seat. They were in the landing pattern at Cubi Point when they had a catastrophic engine failure. The senior pilot called for ejection and pulled his handle. Unfortunately the command eject was forward, so only the rear seat ejected. LTjg Dickson apparently never responded and was on board when the aircraft hit the water.
