Events:
  • October 1960:
    VMA 242 was reorganzied with the A4 in October 1960 MAG-14 at Cherry Point. The goal was the deployment to MAG-12, 1st MAW in 1963.


  • October 1963:
    Deployed to Iwakuni Japan, MAG-12, 1st MAW.


  • October 1964:
    The squadron was deactivated then reactivated at Cherry Point with a new aircraft


  • October 25, 1967:
    Major Fred J. Cone was award the Navy Cross for his actions as a Pilot of an A6A Intruder Aircraft with Marine All Weather Attack Squadron 242 in the Republic of Vietnam.
