![]() Commanding Officer, VT-7 U. S. Navy photograph CDR Michael J. Sherlock is a native of Aldan, PA, where he graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree. After completing Surface Warfare Officer School in Coronado, he reported to the USS HARRY W. HILL (DD-986), serving as the First Lieutenant and Damage Control Assistant from June 1992 until May 1995. He then reported to Pensacola for flight training, earning his wings with VT-21 at NAS Kingsville, TX. After completing FRS training with VS-41 at NAS North Island, CDR Sherlock reported to the VS-22 "Checkmates" in Jacksonville, FL, where he served as Personnel Officer, Aircraft Division Officer, Quality Assurance Officer and Safety Officer. There he completed two deployments with Carrier Air Wing THREE (CVW-3) onboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67), including one no-notice deployment in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Following his tour with the "Checkmates," CDR Sherlock reported to VS-27 Fleet Replacement Squadron and served as the Quality Assurance Officer and Operations Officer until September 1993. He then reported to VS-31 for his department head tour. During this tour, he served as the Administration Officer and Maintenance Officer while deploying with Carrier Air Wing SEVEN onboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) in support of Operations Deny Flight, Sharp Guard and Southern Watch. In October 1995, CDR Sherlock reported to the Commander, Sea Control Wing U.S. Atlantic Fleet as the Officer-In-Charge of the Sea Control Weapons School, and later the Chief Staff Officer. CDR Sherlock has accomplished over 3000 hours and 500 arrested landings. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four with a combat "V"), Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards. |
