Later in 1983, Skyhawk BuNo, 158235 had a traumatic experience on United States Ship Lexington CVA-16 in the Gulf of Mexico. An in-flight engagement happens when the pilot waves-off a landing and the tailhook catches the arresting wire while the Skyhawk is trying to fly away; - The Skyhawk flies to the end of the wire and is slammed to the flight deck with damaging results.

10 OCT 1991: An aircraft handler uses a tiller bar to steer Bobcats Skyhawk C-410 toward one of the catapults. The Forrestal assumed the role of the Navy`s training carrier in early 1992, taking over for the USS Lexington.
