    On May 14, 1968, Lieutenant Barry Karger was assigned a strike mission over Quang Binh province, North Vietnam in A-4F Skyhawk BuNo. 154198, side number NF 304. During this mission something terrible went wrong and Lieutenant Karger did not return to Bon Homme Richard. On January 6, 1994, Lieutenant Karger's remains were identified in North Vietnam. Lieutenant Karger's remains were turned over to American authorities in June 1994 and he was returned to Travis Air Force Base in California later in 1994 for burial. Lieutenant Junior Grade Barry Edwin Karger, United States Navy was born August 11, 1945, in Prather, California. Barry was 22 years old at the time of his death. |
