Here a Fighting Aces Tinker Toy's drogue is plugged by a Swordsman KA-3B Whale's probe --- while a Phantom pilot hunts for the basket. While appearing to be fun and games, tanking becomes deadly serious in the night bolter pattern or when returning from a mission - all shot up and leaking (gushing) fuel. Lieutenant (Junior Grade) William Belden ejects from his Douglas A-4E "Skyhawk" attack aircraft (Bureau # 150117) as it rolls into the carrier's port catwalk after suffering a brake failure following recovery, 2 July 1970. Later A-4E Skyhawk BuNo. 150087 - 1987, side number Quebec Papa-09, flew with VMA-124 "Whistling Death", at Naval Air Station Memphis, as viewed at a Dobbins Air Force Base (Atlanta) air show static display.
